The 'E-Files" way of bringing holiday cheer
(Original post date – 01-Dec-06)
Item #1: Ever
been 'dumped' around the holidays? Usually a way for your mate to
'cop out' on buying you a Christmas gift, only to expect some 'make-up
sex' on New Year's Eve. If this has ever happened to you, I
bet it was not quite in this manner. At least not
yet....
A
first runner-up might go something like this: "Hey Jack, when did you
realize it was over between you and Jill?" "Probably when she
deleted me from her 'friends' list, Bob."
Item #2: Time
to decorate! Well, I'm not putting up Christmas decorations this
year, but if I did, at least I know where not to get them from…
If
the Nativity story is not part of the Scandinavian tradition, I'd like
to know how they explain the birth of Christ. Maybe something
involving Vikings, and of course, Spam.
Item #3: Now let's go on to Germany, a country where many secular Christmas traditions come from…
In 'the 'Old Country', 'Ho-Ho-Ho' must translate to 'Heil-Heil-Hitler'
True
Item: The swastika once (before 1933, of course) was commonly used as a
symbol of peace, much like the classic 'peace symbol' is today. I
know this because my ex's family once showed me an actual Christmas
card in their collection that had one on it. It was from around
1914. Boy, did it creep me out!
Stay
tuned for more 'holiday cheer' live as it happens. Meanwhile, I
think it's time for me to throw down a half-pint and start
my shopping!
